Trouble in Paradise

Asked in Offshore (General) for Cayman Islands

I am a former Manager of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, who for several years wrote political commentaries in a local newspaper and who now settles for blogging. Many of my posts are personal irrelevancies, but some are frank appraisals of the fiscal mess the Cayman government has gotten itself into. Critics of Cayman have to contend with our general climate of censorship, and are not welcomed; frank appraisals by immigrants using their real names are extremely rare.

Here is what I have written in my most recent post: "In a blog-post of mine back in September last year I wondered whether Britain might be preparing to pull the plug on Cayman’s tax-haven, and maybe encouraging our local politicians to go independent... In light of our recent political shenanigans, it is fair to wonder, again, whether our tax-haven is being set up for destruction... Many FCO clerks in London must be muttering to their political masters, “Oh, for God’s sake, let the silly buggers go!”
