TCI Announces Work Permit Crackdown

by Mike Godfrey, Lowtax.net, Washington
23 January, 2018

The Turks and Caicos Islands' Ministry of Border Control and Employment has issued a directive advising that migrant work permits designated as "Final Work Permits" will no longer be eligible for renewal.

The Ministry says that while this restriction is not new, it has not been properly enforced over the years, adding that renewed enforcement of the restriction will give it greater control over migrants' ability to gain residency and citizenship, and will assist qualified Turks and Caicos islanders into positions currently filled by migrants.

The Ministry has advised employers it will be increasing inspections of workplaces throughout the territory to ensure all employment complies with immigration and employment laws. It is encouraging anyone with knowledge of unlawful employment to report this to the territory's Employment Services Department or the Immigration Department.
