St Kitts Announces December Duty-Free Allowances

Caribbean territory Saint Kitts and Nevis has announced further tax concessions for the holiday season, this time for imported goods.

Non-commercial imports will benefit from a duty-free allowance of XCD540 (USD200), including insurance and freight costs. Meanwhile, the first 400lbs (181kg) of "food stuff" imported in gift packages will be free of duties and taxes.

These decisions were taken at a recent meeting of St Kitts and Nevis's Cabinet, with the duty-free allowances being available to non-commercial importers and travelers during the month of December.

Dr Timothy Harris, the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, said that these steps demonstrate his Government's "enduring commitment to help our people, especially the poor, to have a satisfactory quality of life," in the run-up to the festive period.
