The Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone recently announced the founding of the China (Pudong) Intellectual Property Rights Protection Center in the Zone.
The Center will strengthen protection of intellectual property rights in high-end equipment manufacturing and biomedicine sectors. It will provide copyright, patent, and trademark registration and protection services, help law enforcement agencies fight intellectual property rights violations, and provide training for patent and license professionals.
The founding of the Center bolsters other initiatives to reform the management of intellectual property rights in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, a special economic area in which the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is located. These initiatives include the establishment of the Pudong Intellectual Property Bureau on January 1, 2015, which brings together patent, trademark, and copyright services in one place.
The Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone was founded in 2013 and offers a number of tax preferences. It comprises a bonded area, high-tech park, financial area, and an export processing zone.
