The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone's credentials as a promoter of maritime law have been boosted with the recent signature of a maritime convention in the Zone.
The Convention was signed by 22 maritime law firms, arbitration institutions, shipping industry associations, and universities with maritime studies. Signatories agreed to provide legal services to maritime organizations and shipping companies, design industry standards and contract formats, and establish an early-warning system for shipping companies.
The signing of the Convention was organized by the Zone's Commerce Commission, which spearheads forums, seminars, and coordination meetings involving shipping industry executives, legal experts, and academics.
The China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone was created in 2013 and offers new companies a number of tax preferences. It comprises a bonded area, high-tech park, financial area, and an export processing zone.
