Jersey Treasury Minister Holds The Line On Tax

Jersey's Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, stands by the proposal to cut the marginal rate of personal income tax for the majority of islanders, having consulted the Council of Ministers regarding the 2014 Budget amendments.
Senator Ozouf rejected a proposal to introduce UK VAT-style GST exemptions as an alternative to changing the income tax system. He argues that zero or lower duty rate increases would reduce income and would not comply with existing health policies on alcohol and tobacco consumption.
The Treasury Minister is accepting a proposal to allow charities to claim tax relief on all lump sum donations over GBP50 as opposed to the current limit of GBP100.
