Jersey hopes that the UK's membership of the World Trade Organization is extended to the territory as part of the UK quitting the European Union.
Minister for External Relations Philip Bailhache said the UK's WTO membership should extend to both Guernsey and Jersey, as it does for the Isle of Man, and he welcomed a recent report by the House of Lords European Union Committee making this recommendation.
Bailhache also drew attention to recognition in the Committee's report that Jersey should be given the opportunity to participate in future trade agreements with countries beyond the EU.
Bailhache said the Committee's recommendations were in line with Jersey's wish to develop an international identity, as referenced in the island's 2007 Framework Agreement with the UK.
