Jersey Hikes Fees To Keep Taxes Stable

Jersey's Minister for the Environment has announced new planning, building, and environmental fees and charges for the 2018 year.

Some fees and charges remain unchanged, with others increasing by up to 2.5 percent, which is below the 3.1 percent annual percentage change in the Retail Price Index in September 2017.

Building application fees for 2018 range from GBP885 (USD1,195) for a new flat, rising to GBP1,358 for a new house. Planning application fees are GBP5.27 per square meter for a single dwelling and GBP9.73 per square meter for more than one dwelling.

The Department says the increased fees and charges will allow it to achieve cost recovery of some services, and to meet the island's medium-term financial plan commitments, which aims to avoid changes to Jersey's tax structure.
