The Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in the United Arab Emirates conducted a five-day roadshow in Japan recently to highlight the benefits for Japanese companies of using the zone to access other markets in the Middle East and Africa.
Jafza said that it is looking to enhance its trade ties with Japan and bring more Japanese companies to Jafza and Dubai. Jafza currently hosts 145 Japanese companies, including Mitsubishi, Nissan, Panasonic, Toshiba, Honda, Sony, Hitachi Denso, and Isuzu. Its total trade volume with Japan stands at about USD2.7bn.
The benefits available to companies established in the zone include 100 percent foreign ownership, zero percent corporate tax guaranteed for 50 years, zero percent import and re-export duties, zero percent personal income tax, and no restrictions on the repatriation of capital and profits.
