HKEx Markets Set New Records in 2014

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) has confirmed that its securities and derivatives markets set several new records this year, according to market statistics to December 15, 2014.
In particular, the market capitalization of HKEx's securities market exceeded HKD26 trillion (USD4.2 trillion) in 2014 for the first time, reaching its high for the year of HKD26.5 trillion on September 4. As of December 15, there were 1,742 listed companies on the Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market.
In 2014, the turnover of exchange traded funds also reached a record high, topping HKD1 trillion during the year; the turnover of HKEx's securitized derivatives ranked first in the world for the eighth consecutive year; and its various futures and options contracts reached new record highs in terms of open interest.
In addition, the total of equity funds raised was HKD$852.9bn (HKD168.4bn through IPOs and HKD684.5bn from post-IPO fundraising) and, in the period from January 1 to December 15, 2014, the average daily securities market turnover was HKD69bn.
Separately, the London Metal Exchange (LME), a subsidiary of HKEx, has issued its figures for contract volume, market open interest and global market share of key products in 2014. While the total contract volume of nickel set a new record this year, the LME's average daily volume was 705,930 lots, up 4.4 percent from 676,283 lots in 2013.
