Guernsey Image Rights Register, which was launched in December 2012, has registered its first financial services firm, Ravenscroft.
Ravenscroft, a Guernsey-based stockbroking and investment management company, registered its image to protect the company's brand name and logo. The company's Chief Executive, Jon Ravenscroft, said: "Guernsey is a world leader in image rights and the island's Intellectual Property Office has attracted interest from around the globe."
"Ravenscroft's reputation is growing all of the time and so we felt the time was right to protect our image and demonstrate our support for an innovative industry sector. To be the world's first financial services provider to register its image is something we are proud of, and we hope that other companies will follow suit."
Guernsey's registry – the first of its kind in the world – provides greater legal protection of intellectual property rights for registrants. It also eases the transfer of image rights, and registration may unlock tax benefits.
