Guernsey is set to launch a new Government-funded "Digital Greenhouse" to encourage companies in the digital and creative sectors to locate to the island.
The Commerce and Employment Department has announced that the "Greenhouse" will be located in the Market Square, St Peter Port. The Digital Greenhouse will provide a 4,000-square-feet shared co-working space, where entrepreneurs can sit down, connect to the internet, and work on their business ideas.
The Government intends for the Digital Greenhouse to be a focal space for advice and networking for the whole community. Members will have access to Startup Guernsey, which will have an office in the buildings, and its team of business mentors who will provide business advice, start-up support networks, and information on potential sources of finance.
Guernsey's Minister of Commerce and Employment, Kevin Stewart, commented: "The Department has worked incredibly hard over the summer to secure the right premises under the right terms to benefit the long term success of the Digital Greenhouse. We are very excited to have an excellent venue for the Digital Greenhouse, which is right in the centre of St Peter Port. We know how important this facility will be to help foster and grow the developing digital and creative sectors in Guernsey. I am sure many others will join me in welcoming this great news and in looking forward to the doors finally opening."
Mike Culverwell, Interim Director of the Digital Greenhouse, said: "This is a key step in the early life of the Digital Greenhouse. We have been running several initiatives over the summer to engage and support collaboration and open innovation, to celebrate new launches and to work with the excellent local training providers to identify what else we can do to support skills development. These premises will provide an invaluable focal point for a lot of this activity and to further support and promote successful digital entrepreneurship on the island."
