Cayman Premier Alden McLaughlin told attendees at the recent Fidelity CEO conference that the territory is one of the top-three jurisdictions for blockchain startups.
His statement has been backed by Cayman Enterprise City, the tax-free special economic zone launched in 2012, which has reported a boom in blockchain startups, with 30 to 40 companies setting up a physical presence in the territory to develop applications using decentralized register technology.
Commenting on the future of financial technology (Fintech) startups in the territory, Cayman Finance CEO Jude Scott said: "Financial technology ... is the single most important thing that we are going to have to focus on in the years to come. Not only will [it] transform our day-to-day lives, it will transform our industry, it will transform the global industry, and Cayman is going to play, I believe, a very important role in that."
