Bermuda To Retroactively Apply Land Tax Changes

by Mike Godfrey, Lowtax.net, Washington
04 April, 2016

Bermuda is to retroactively apply adjusted land tax rates from the beginning of this year.

The Office of the Tax Commissioner has advised that for the period January 1 to June 30, 2016:

  • Existing due dates for the period are no longer valid. The revised due date for all residential properties is June 30, 2016.
  • Taxpayers who have already paid land tax for the period will have a credit adjustment reflected on their next demand notice for the period July 1 to December 31, 2016. No refunds for overpayments will be processed.

Taxpayers who have not yet paid their land tax bill can either wait until they receive a revised demand notice in the mail and settle the amount due by June 30, 2016, or pay the corrected amount now.

Information on revised land tax liability can be obtained from the Office of the Tax Commissioner or by using the Land Tax Calculator. Those taxpayers who do not receive a notice should contact the Office of the Tax Commissioner, the Government said.
