Bahamas Introduces Online Business Licences

The Bahamas tax office has announced that a new online application platform for business licences will go live on August 4, 2015.

The Online Tax Administration System (OTAS) is intended to provide businesses with a simple, user-friendly, online application and payment system.

According to the tax office, it will use the same system currently being used for Value Added Tax (VAT) registrations.

The tax office said the addition of the business licence section to OTAS creates a convenient online experience for business owners and taxpayers. OTAS users can easily complete business licence and VAT registrations in one online environment, at any place and any time, it said.

The system will generate an automatic e-mail response confirming submission of applications and payments. All inquiries can be made directly through the portal. Approved business licences will be e-mailed directly to the registrant.
