The Securities Commission of The Bahamas, which regulates capital markets in the territory, recently hosted securities regulators from 18 jurisdictions across the Americas to discuss multilateral securities market regulatory matters.
The meeting was the second of two general meetings of the Inter-American Regional Committee (IARC) of the International Organization of Securities Commissions and the Council of Securities Regulators of the Americas (COSRA) held in 2016.
The Commission's Executive Director, Christina Rolle, said that hosting the meeting was positive for the Bahamas, as the agency has identified that it should increase its work with regional and international securities bodies to better position it to respond to global securities market developments and emerging regulations. It also allowed Bahamas to put forward local regulatory concerns to international standard setting bodies, Rolle said.
