BVI Trials New Work Permit Renewal System

by Mike Godfrey, Lowtax.net, Washington
14 March, 2017

The British Virgin Islands will start testing a new process for renewal of work permits on March 15, 2017, ahead of full implementation scheduled for May 15, 2017.

The new renewal process is intended to reduce work permit processing times to two weeks, and is part of efforts to improve customer service in keeping with the territory's BVI Forward initiative to reform immigration and labour.

The new process will include the introduction of a single-page renewal form that will be available in electronic and hard copy format. During the test phase, persons seeking to renew their work permits will have the option to complete the form electronically or manually and submit their form to the territory's Labour Department.

The Labour Department has invited persons whose current work permit expires before June 9, 2017, to participate in the test phase by visiting the Department's website from Wednesday, March 15, 2017, and follow the online instructions. Persons who do not sign up for the test must follow the existing process.
