BVI To Offer Tax Amnesty For Past Non-Compliance

by Jason Gorringe, Lowtax.net, London
24 February, 2017

The British Virgin Islands' tax agency has announced that an amnesty will be offered from March 2017 for taxes unpaid prior to 2017.

In a reminder for taxpayers of upcoming deadlines, the Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Karen Smith-Aaron, said that, during the period March 2017 to June 2017, there will be an amnesty waiving penalties and interest that would be incurred on disclosed unpaid amounts due prior to 2017.

However, she warned taxpayers to ensure that they are compliant with monthly reporting deadlines, noting late payment and non-payment penalties.

Motor vehicle tax and hotel accommodation tax are due monthly and must be paid by the 15th of the following month, and payroll tax is due on the 21st, she said.
