The British Virgin Islands' Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department has reminded property owners that property tax for 2016 is due and payable on September 1.
The Commissioner said November 30, 2016, is the last date on which the tax can be paid without incurring interest.
Property tax is payable by every person who owns land or a house (or both) whether by purchase, lease, gift, devise, bequest, intestacy, or by any other means. Limited exemptions apply, including for crown property.
Property owners can view their property tax liability on the territory's Property Tax list. The list includes the name(s) of property owners and the amount of tax due. The list can be viewed at various public buildings throughout the territory, including the Central Administration Complex and Inland Revenue Department offices on Tortola and Virgin Gorda.
