Vanuatu: Labour Regulation

Regulatory Environment

The Employment Acts of 1983 and 1986 deal with employment practices in Vanuatu; they are not very onerous for employers.

In October 2008, the monthly minimum wage was increased to VT26,000 from VT22,000; employees are entitled to 12 days of paid leave and 21 days of sick leave per annum.

Although there are no State social security contributions as such, employees and employers contribute 6% of salary each to an approved superannuation scheme, usually the Vanuatu National Provident Fund.
