According to the International Monetary Fund, as of 2018, Greece has the 45nd highest GDP per capita in the world. It is ranked 31st on the UN's 2018 human development index (a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, standards of living, and quality of life).

Greece is the 14th largest economy in the European Union and was a founding member of the OECD and Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC). Greece joined the EEC in 1981 and abandoned the drachma to join the Eurozone monetary union in 2001. More »
