Denmark: Country and Foreign Investment
The Kingdom of Denmark has has a population of just over 5.6 million inhabitants spread over approximately 43,000km². Politically, Denmark is a constitutional monarchy with Queen Margrethe II as head of state, but in practice she holds only ceremonial powers. Helle Thorning-Schmidt is the current Danish Prime Minister, a role she has held since 2011.
According to the International Monetary Fund, as of 2013, Denmark has the 19th highest GDP per capita in the world. It is ranked as 15th on the UN's Human Development Index (a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, standards of living, and quality of life).
The World Bank ranks Denmark as the easiest place in Europe to do business. Company formation can take less than 24 hours, and can be completed over the internet. Denmark has some of the world's most flexible labour market rules and is unencumbered by red tape and bureaucracy. Denmark is not a part of the eurozone although its currency, the krone (crown), is fixed at approximately 7.46 kroner per euro.
