QROPS BULLETIN - MARCH 2014

19 March, 2014
There are some very interesting articles among the usual dross this month. New developments include the introduction of new legislation in Gibraltar to introduce QNUPS. This is backed up by an article outlining the effect of the further imminent reduction in UK Lifetime and Annual Allowances on QROPS (and QNUPS). The issue here is that these allowances will reduce further in the future, and there is already discussion of limiting tax relief to 20% above certain thresholds. Watch this space, but there is little doubt that there may be opportunities here both for expats and UK residents.
There is also the announcement of yet another group looking at Pension Liberation and the measures and controls they will be taking. This sort of thing is already impacting on QROPS Transfers, but how much of it is concern about Pension Liberation or merely hanging on to funds under management is a moot point. However we are becoming aware of a growing trend currently in the QROPS market. This involves the use of QROPS for UK residents to enable them to invest in Unregulated Investments/UCIS. It could be that the stance of the FCA and the unwillingness of many UK SIP Providers to allow these investments is driving this, but please be aware. Caution might be advisable.
We dont write these articles or endorse them, but we think they may be of interest to people operating in this complex market place.
