Looking for a Service Provider in Australia

Asked in Offshore (General) for Cook Islands

0
Hi I am interested in setting up an offshore trust in the cook islands. I live in Australia. So I am looking for a service provider than can help me set this up legally. I know KPMG, Ernst and Young are based in australia but I am not a high net worth individual.

terence.dwyer@dwyerlawyers.com.au - Well, there is no great problem I doing that. But if you put money in a foreign trust Australian law may deem you to be the owner of all the income of that trust (so do not give charitable donations to Oxfam as a UK charitable trust!). terence.dwyer@dwyerlawyers.com.au - So what is it that you really want? Is it asset protection? What is important in all these things is not to say "I want this" when it may not be what you really need but to set out what are your overall goals - estate planning? asset protection? privacy? maximum after tax returns? etc Commented on Nov 04, 2014 at 12:09

Great thanks, what I am looking for is to invest money (say up to $150,000 AUS) into mutual funds or stocks, CFDs (contracts for difference), and to minimise the tax on those profits to as low as possible. Or maybe basing my superannuation offshore as well for the same reason to minimise the tax on the profits? I also am a geologist and have done contract work in the past using my own australian registered company. I was wondering whether I could base that company offshore and work in australia or other countries and minimise tax to as low as possible. I am also a dual British-Australian citizen (I also have an Argentinian passport). Thanks very much. John

terence.dwyer@dwyerlawyers.com.au - Well, it is not that simple. If you set up a company trading overseas and you live in Australia the profits may well be attributed back to you and taxed as income by Australia.
