Standard and Poor's has attached a positive outlook to Malta's BBB+/A-2 credit rating, noting Malta's favorable economic growth prospects and efforts to improve its fiscal position.
Malta's Ministry for Finance welcomed its latest assessment. Finance Minister Edward Scicluna stated: "Standard & Poor's rating reflects the solid performance of our economy and prospects for the upcoming years. It is evident that Government's efforts are bearing the desired results and we expect this to continue in the coming years."
According to the Ministry, the ratings agency said that "further diversification of the economy – particularly into information and communication technology, education, and medical tourism – could support further investment activity."
