The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority has introduced online payment options for taxpayers.
Taxpayers can now make payment through the Maldives Monetary Authority's Maldives Real Time Gross Settlement (MRTGS) payments system, through their bank, or by Bank of Maldives debit or credit card. In addition, the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority and the Bank of Maldives have launched a new Vaaru debit card, which can be used only to make payments to the agency.
Speaking at the event, the territory's finance minister said that MIRA is an organization that is continuously trying to make tax compliance easier for taxpayers and that the introduction of online payments will make it easier for taxpayers throughout Maldives to pay taxes. The service will also move Maldives ahead in the World Bank's "Doing Business" index, he said.
The Inland Revenue Authority confirmed that the Vaaru Card and MRTGS online payment system are only available to taxpayers who use the agency's online portal, MIRAconnect.
