Jersey Consults On Property Development Levy

by Jason Gorringe, Lowtax.net, London
12 October, 2016

Jersey has announced that it is considering a developer levy on new developments.

The Government has launched a consultation with the local construction industry, stressing that the proposal is at a very early stage.

The Minister for the Environment, Steve Luce, had announced at the start of the year that he wanted to explore the possibility of introducing a charge similar to the UK's community infrastructure levy.

The levy on new developments would help fund improvements to public infrastructure, support the creation of affordable homes, and fund regeneration efforts.

A report on the proposal is due by the end of this year. If approved, the levy could be introduced at the end of 2017.
