Guernsey and Jersey are jointly hosting a conference on combating terrorist financing later this month, led by international experts from the United Nations, Israel, France and the UK.
The conference will feature presentations from Israeli Deputy State Attorney Yehuda Shaffer, a UN Security Council Finance Expert, and Alain Lefebvre from Tracfin, the French financial intelligence unit.
Channel Islands' domestic authorities will also participate in half-day events, which are taking place in Guernsey and Jersey. The events are intended to raise awareness about a range of crucial issues relating to terrorist financing.
Commenting on the forthcoming conference, Jersey's Chief Minister, Ian Gorst, said: "Countering the financing of terrorism remains a core-priority for the Government of Jersey as part of our responsibilities as an international finance center. 2017 represents a step-change for the island authorities in awareness-raising and outreach to the finance industry and I am delighted to be able to welcome such highly-qualified world experts to Jersey on February 16, 2017, to participate in this event."
John Harris, the Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission, added: "We, along with the governments of both Jersey and Guernsey, are fully committed to the worldwide fight against terrorist financing. We feel that it is vital to raise awareness locally and to ensure that we, and all the firms we regulate, make it a major priority and apportion resources accordingly."
