It is impossible and unhelpful to generalize about property prices in China, since so much depends on location.
As a general trend, it can be said that rental levels continue to increase in most cities, although these increases are from a low level. Rents fell in 2008 and 2009 by up to 40% in many cities. In Beijing, the rent increases for certain commercial property were as much as 75% and high-specification office space in 2011 was on offer at RMB800 per square meter.
Retail rents in 2011 ranged from RMB200-350 per square metre per month.
