British Virgin Islands: Labour Regulation
Prior to October 2010, labour regulation in the BVI was very light. The Labour Code 2010, gazetted in May 2010, came into force on 4 October 2010. The Code revises the rules for work permits; holds employers to new minimum standards; defines and prohibits employee discrimination; calls for the creation of a tribunal for settling disputes; and for the creation of an advisory committee to monitor the Code and its penalties. In addition, the Code covers the areas of regular breaks, annual leave and severance pay entitlements.
