Your Ships Come in Over a Calm Sea

11 August 2008
Recently I’ve been moving house in one of my several bases. Since I work from home, this has left me disconnected from the internet for a few days. But that’s no bad thing, because it has given me time to think, breathe and reflect on where I am headed. And I would like to challenge you, as summer holidays are upon us, to try this experience too. Can you disconnect for a week?

One thing me and my colleagues at The Q Wealth Report always tell those who are interested in setting up a business of any sort, offshore or onshore, is that if you are in a permanent state of stress, you will find it harder – if not impossible – to attract the wealth that you want into your life. It’s a simple rule: it doesn’t matter how many ships there are out at sea or how full of goodies they are, none of them can get into the harbour if there’s a storm raging.

Everybody has their stress points. The internet is certainly one for me. Granted, I basically live on the internet, and I certainly couldn’t do my work without it. But things happen so fast, that I find myself distracted by hundreds of different things going on, from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to how I should fix the air conditioning in an apartment I own thousands of miles away. With all this “information overload” it is hard to concentrate on actually getting things done, moving forward in my personal and professional life. As they say, you can end up not seeing the wood for the trees.

So if you too are overloaded by email, try letting go for a few days (or even a few weeks). You will be amazed how problems miraculously solve themselves without your intervention. I said this to a friend of mine, a busy property developer the other day. When he was younger and carefree, he refused to carry a mobile phone. Now that he has a young family and a major real estate development, he’s in touch 24/7 via his Blackberry. He said he couldn’t afford to just disappear anymore. Then, thinking about it further, he admitted that the whole major project he is working on just fell into the palm of his hand because of some good contacts he made while out partying, disconnected from the world.

Try to take some time off this summer. Go on holiday with your family, and don’t check email. Switch off your cellphone. You deserve it. And you will come back refreshed, much more productive, and with some great ideas.

Next week: What is Harmonic Wealth, what are the Five Pillars of Wealth, and how can they benefit you?

Look forward to more blog entries about Freedom, Wealth and Privacy. I hope you enjoy them and that you can use the information here to benefit your business and your life. In turn I would much appreciate your feedback, comments and questions. I can be contacted via info@petermacfarlane.net.
